Terms of Service

LockedWeb is deliberately hard to remove — so these terms are unusually direct about what you're agreeing to. Section 1 is the part to read before you subscribe.

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and LockedWeb, 671 Willow Pass Rd Unit #1, Pittsburg, CA 94565 ("LockedWeb," "we," "us"). They govern the LockedWeb website, apps, configuration profiles, and content-filtering service (together, the "Service"). By creating an account, subscribing, or installing LockedWeb on a device, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

01What LockedWeb is — read this before you subscribe

LockedWeb is a content filter that is deliberately hard to remove. That is the product. By subscribing, you are choosing, on purpose, to make it slow and deliberate to unprotect a device. Please make sure you understand and want the following before you enroll a device:

  • There is no off switch. Protection cannot be paused, disabled, or turned off. Logging out does not turn it off. Filtering works offline — disconnecting from the internet or restarting a device is not a way around it.
  • Removal is a deliberate process. To remove LockedWeb from a device — or to loosen protection — you start a removal request from your dashboard, wait 72 hours, and then complete the removal steps for your installation type (for standard installations, a one-time unlock code that becomes available after the wait). Protection remains fully active during the entire waiting period. You can cancel a pending request at any time before completing it.
  • The 72-hour wait is fixed, for everyone. It cannot be shortened or waived — not by you, and not by LockedWeb support, which has no ability to issue codes early or release a device ahead of the clock. No expedited path exists.
  • Stricter is instant; looser is slow. Making protection stricter takes effect immediately. Loosening it — removing a site you blocked, relaxing a category — goes through the same 72-hour process. Core protections (adult content, SafeSearch enforcement, and DNS-bypass protection) cannot be loosened at all.

You are choosing this on purpose. By enrolling a device you acknowledge that the removal process — including the 72-hour wait — is the product feature you are purchasing, that LockedWeb will decline requests to bypass or shorten it, and that the unlock code is delivered only to the account holder through the dashboard after the wait. You accept the consequences of not being able to remove or loosen protection during a waiting period, including inconvenience in urgent or time-sensitive situations (for example travel, work, or device service).

If a temporary block on a website you legitimately need is the result of an incorrect categorization, that is not an unlock: contact support@lockedweb.com and we can review the categorization (Section 8).

02Eligibility and your account

You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract to create an account and subscribe. You agree to provide accurate account information and keep it current. Sign-in uses your email address (or Google/Apple sign-in); you are responsible for maintaining control of that email account and for all activity under your LockedWeb account, and you agree to notify us promptly of any unauthorized use.

03Devices you enroll; installs for others

You may enroll only devices you own or have the authority to manage.

  • Everyone consents. If you set up LockedWeb on a device used by another person — for example, a family member — that person must know filtering is active. The setup flow on the device discloses it, and on some platforms a persistent notification shows protection is running. You are responsible for having any consent or authority required.
  • Parents and guardians may set up protection on the devices of minors in their care; the parent or guardian is the account holder and gives any consents on the minor's behalf.
  • No covert or coercive use. You may not use LockedWeb to secretly monitor or to control, harass, or coerce another person. LockedWeb is a filter, not a surveillance tool, and using it against another adult without their knowledge and consent is a violation of these Terms and may violate the law. We may suspend or terminate accounts involved in such use.

04Subscriptions, billing, and automatic renewal

  • Web billing. Subscriptions are purchased on our website. Payments are processed by Stripe; the price and billing period are shown at checkout. Our checkout collects your contact details, including a phone number, used as described in our Privacy Policy.
  • Automatic renewal. Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period at the then-current price, and your payment method is charged, until you cancel. For plans of one year or longer we send a renewal reminder before the renewal date, as required by law.
  • Cancelling. You can cancel online from your dashboard at any time, without contacting support. Cancellation stops future charges and takes effect at the end of the current paid period, and you keep access until then.
  • Price changes. We may change subscription prices. Changes take effect no earlier than your next renewal, and we will notify you in advance so you can cancel first if you wish.

05Cancelling your subscription and removing LockedWeb are different steps

Cancelling your subscription stops future charges. It does not, by itself, remove LockedWeb from a device. Removing LockedWeb from a device is always done through the standard removal process described in Section 1 — a 72-hour wait plus the completion steps for your installation type. The same is true of deleting your account (Section 12): account deletion handles your data, and device removal is its own process. If you intend to stop using LockedWeb entirely, complete the removal process on each device. The reverse is also true: removing LockedWeb from your devices does not cancel your subscription — cancel from your dashboard to stop future charges.

An active subscription is required for the Service. We reserve the right to suspend, limit, or de-authorize protection on devices that are not covered by an active subscription.

06Refunds

30-day money-back guarantee. If you are not satisfied, email billing@lockedweb.com within 30 days of your first charge and we will refund that charge in full. The guarantee applies to your first subscription purchase only, once per account.

A refund is money back — it is not an unlock. Refunds and cancellation do not remove LockedWeb from any device. Removing LockedWeb is always the separate standard removal process described in Section 1, including the 72-hour wait and the completion steps for your installation type. A product whose purpose is a binding delay would not work if a payment reversal could bypass it.

Outside the guarantee, and except where the law requires otherwise, fees are non-refundable and unused time is not refunded on cancellation. We may, at our sole discretion, issue a refund in individual cases; doing so is not a waiver of this section. One exception runs in your favor: if we discontinue the Service entirely, Section 14 provides a pro-rata refund of unused time.

07Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use the Service in violation of law, or in violation of Section 3 (covert or coercive use);
  • interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure, including probing, overloading, or circumventing rate limits, authentication, or technical safeguards of our systems;
  • reverse engineer, decompile, or modify the Service or its software, except to the extent the law permits notwithstanding this restriction;
  • resell, sublicense, or provide the Service to third parties as a service; or
  • misrepresent your identity to our support team, or attempt to obtain another person's unlock code or account access.

08What filtering can and cannot do

  • No filter is perfect. We do not promise that the Service will block all adult or unwanted content, or that it will never block content you consider legitimate. Content, sites, and circumvention techniques change constantly.
  • Domain-level blocking. DNS filtering operates on whole domains. Blocking a domain blocks everything on it; category rules can therefore block more than the specific pages you had in mind. This is how the Service is designed to work and is not a defect.
  • Incorrect categorization. Our blocklists incorporate widely used third-party category data, and mistakes happen. If a website is wrongly categorized, contact support@lockedweb.com; corrections we accept are made centrally and apply to all users. Reviewing a categorization is not an unlock and does not shorten any waiting period.
  • Platforms differ. Effectiveness and resistance to removal vary by platform, installation type, and device configuration, and depend on operating systems and networks we do not control. Certain installation types can be removed through operating-system mechanisms outside our control — for example, Apple permits a user-installed iOS configuration profile to be removed from device settings, and resetting a device to factory condition removes device software. Operating-system updates or platform policy changes may reduce, disable, or require changes to Service features; none of this is a breach of these Terms.
  • Not medical or mental-health care. LockedWeb is a filtering and commitment tool. It is not therapy, counseling, or medical advice, and it is not a substitute for professional help. If you are experiencing a mental-health emergency, contact your local emergency number (911 in the US) or call or text 988 (the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline).

09Accountability partners

If you invite an accountability partner, the feature works as described in our Privacy Policy: the partner must accept the invitation, active partners receive alerts about removal and protection-loosening requests (including a specific site named in a request), tamper events, and category-level block counts, and either of you can end the partner relationship at any time — removal is immediate and the partner is notified. Partners receive alerts as a courtesy to you; we are not responsible for a partner's actions or inaction, and partner alerts do not change the removal process in Section 1. Alerts and block counts are informational and may be incomplete or inaccurate (Section 8); they are not designed or warranted for use as evidence in legal proceedings.

10Changes to the Service

We continually update the Service — apps, blocklists, filtering infrastructure, and features. We may add, change, or remove features, and we may update software on enrolled devices, at any time. You agree to install updates we make available; parts of the Service may not operate properly without them. We aim to keep the Service available at all times but do not warrant uninterrupted operation; maintenance, outages, and factors outside our control can affect availability.

11Intellectual property; license

The Service, including its software, design, and content, is owned by LockedWeb or its licensors. We grant you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use the LockedWeb apps and profiles on devices you enroll, for personal, non-commercial use in accordance with these Terms. If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them without obligation to you. Third-party components and blocklist data are used under their own licenses; attributions are included with the software.

12Privacy; account deletion

Our Privacy Policy describes what we collect and why — including what accountability partners receive, and what is retained (and for how long) if you delete your account. You can delete your account at any time from within the Service. As Section 5 explains, deleting your account does not remove LockedWeb from a device; removal is the standard removal process.

13Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time (Sections 45 cover cancelling and removal). We may suspend or terminate your account or access to the Service if you materially breach these Terms (including Sections 3 and 7), if required by law, or to protect the Service and its users; where practicable we will give notice. Sections that by their nature should survive termination — including Sections 6, 7, and 1418 — survive.

14If the Service is discontinued

If we discontinue the Service entirely, we will make commercially reasonable efforts to give advance notice — our target is at least 30 days — and to provide a supported path to remove LockedWeb from your devices. In that case we will also refund, pro rata, the unused portion of any period you have already paid for.

15Disclaimer of warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE." TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, LOCKEDWEB DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WITHOUT LIMITING THE FOREGOING, WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BLOCK ALL OBJECTIONABLE CONTENT, THAT IT WILL NOT BLOCK CONTENT YOU WANTED, THAT IT WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE, OR THAT IT WILL FUNCTION IDENTICALLY ON EVERY PLATFORM OR AFTER OPERATING-SYSTEM CHANGES. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT USE OF THE SERVICE WILL ACHIEVE ANY PARTICULAR PERSONAL OUTCOME OR PROTECT ANY PERSON FROM HARM. YOUR SOLE REMEDY FOR DISSATISFACTION WITH THE SERVICE IS TO STOP USING IT (SECTIONS 4–5). SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW CERTAIN WARRANTY DISCLAIMERS, SO PARTS OF THIS SECTION MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.

16Limitation of liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW: (A) LOCKEDWEB WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, LOST DATA, OR LOSS OF GOODWILL; (B) LOCKEDWEB WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR DAMAGES ARISING FROM CONTENT THAT WAS ACCESSED DESPITE FILTERING, CONTENT THAT WAS BLOCKED, DELAYS INHERENT IN THE REMOVAL PROCESS (INCLUDING THE 72-HOUR WAITING PERIOD), THE ACTIONS OR INACTION OF AN ACCOUNTABILITY PARTNER, EMOTIONAL DISTRESS OR PERSONAL, RELATIONSHIP, OR PROFESSIONAL CONSEQUENCES RELATED TO YOUR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO REMOVE) THE SERVICE, CHANGES TO OPERATING SYSTEMS OR THIRD-PARTY PLATFORMS, OR THIRD-PARTY SERVICES; AND (C) LOCKEDWEB'S TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR THE SERVICE IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM. THESE LIMITS APPLY EVEN IF A REMEDY FAILS OF ITS ESSENTIAL PURPOSE, AND THEY SURVIVE TERMINATION. TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE SERVICE MUST BE BROUGHT WITHIN ONE YEAR AFTER THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO IT. THESE LIMITS DO NOT APPLY TO LIABILITY THAT CANNOT BE LIMITED BY LAW. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW CERTAIN LIMITATIONS, SO PARTS OF THIS SECTION MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.

17Indemnification

You will defend and indemnify LockedWeb and its officers, employees, and agents against claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your breach of these Terms, your violation of law, or your enrollment of a device without the authority or consent Section 3 requires.

18Governing law; dispute resolution

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.

  • Talk to us first. Before filing a claim, you agree to email support@lockedweb.com (or write to our address above) with a description of the dispute and give us 30 days to try to resolve it informally.
  • Binding arbitration. Except as provided below, any dispute arising out of these Terms or the Service will be resolved by binding individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules. The arbitration will be conducted in English, by videoconference or in the county where you live.
  • Arbitration costs. LockedWeb will pay the AAA filing, administrative, and arbitrator fees that exceed the equivalent of your local small-claims court filing fee, unless the arbitrator finds your claim frivolous or brought for an improper purpose.
  • Mass filings. If 25 or more similar demands are filed by or with the assistance of the same counsel or organization, the AAA's batch or mass-arbitration procedures will apply and fees will be staged accordingly.
  • Exceptions. Either party may bring an individual claim in small-claims court, or seek injunctive relief in court for infringement or misuse of intellectual property or for unauthorized access to the Service. Nothing in this section waives either party's right to seek public injunctive relief where California law guarantees it.
  • Class-action waiver. Disputes will be resolved only on an individual basis — not in a class, consolidated, or representative proceeding.
  • Opt-out. You may opt out of this arbitration agreement by emailing support@lockedweb.com within 30 days of first accepting these Terms, with your name and account email; opting out does not affect the rest of these Terms.

For matters not subject to arbitration, you and LockedWeb consent to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Contra Costa County, California.

19General

These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and LockedWeb about the Service. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest remain in effect. Our not enforcing a provision is not a waiver of it. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets. We are not liable for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control. Notices to you may be sent to your account email; notices to us go to support@lockedweb.com or our postal address above.

Changes to these Terms. We may update these Terms from time to time. The effective date above shows the current version. For material changes we will give advance notice — for example, by email or a notice in the Service — before the change takes effect; continued use after the effective date means the updated Terms apply.
