Google TV parental controls: a Kids profile with a locked exit

A Google TV Kids profile is most useful when both its contents and its exit are configured. Start with the child's profile, then review each app allowed inside it.

Recommended setup

1. Add the child profile. From the Google TV home screen, open the account menu, choose Add account, then Add a kid. Follow the setup for the child and choose the apps to include.
2. Enable Kids lock. In device settings, open Accounts & Profiles, select the child, and turn on Kids lock. Complete the adult-account verification.
3. Review allowed apps. Use the child's app-management settings to remove access to apps that do not fit your plan.
4. Choose content restrictions. Set the available movie and television limits for the child's Google TV experience. ¹

Good to know

Google TV's rating controls are not a universal content filter inside every third-party app. An allowed Netflix or YouTube app needs its own appropriate setup. Features and availability also vary by device and region. ¹

Do not casually share the adult credential or Google PIN used for unlocking. Review what else that credential authorizes before treating it as an entertainment-only code.

Check your setup

Open the Kids profile and verify the app list. Try leaving it, opening settings, and accessing an unrestricted app. Confirm that the expected adult authorization is required.

Next, enter each permitted streaming app and check its own profile and viewing limit. Finally, inspect the television's separate home screen, other inputs, and casting arrangements as part of your household audit. Do not assume those routes are covered merely because Google TV itself opens in the Kids profile.

This guide is for a child's supported profile. Adults seeking their own boundary should use the account and device controls appropriate to their real account rather than changing their age to qualify for child features.
