YouTube TV parental controls: the age filter on every device

YouTube TV has its own age-filter setting. Do not assume the Restricted Mode setting in regular YouTube configures your live-TV subscription too.

Recommended setup

1. Open YouTube TV. Select your profile picture and go to Settings.
2. Find Filter. Choose the age-filter option that fits the viewing limit you want.
3. Repeat for every account and device. Google says this setting applies to the particular account on the particular device. Configure each place where you watch. ¹

Good to know

With filtering enabled, content above the selected level and unrated content are restricted. A live program may still appear in the guide even when it cannot be played or previewed. Regular YouTube videos are also unavailable inside the filtered YouTube TV experience. ¹

Those are playback and visibility rules, not proof of a private parental lock. The cited guide describes a setting the viewer can enable; do not assume a PIN requirement unless your device actually presents one.

For adult self-protection, a changeable preference may help with everyday viewing but may not meet the goal of resisting an impulsive reversal. For children, check who controls settings and whether a different household account can be selected.

Check your setup

Reopen the app on each television and mobile device. Confirm the filter under the actual account used there, then inspect a harmless above-limit listing. Verify whether playback is restricted and whether the filter can be changed without authorization.

Also check the separate YouTube app, the television's own live-channel guide, and other installed streaming services. Treat these as additional audit items, not as services the YouTube TV setting has already configured.
