Prime Video parental controls: lock profiles and check downloads

Prime Video has viewing restrictions, profile locks, and an account PIN. Using only a Kids profile leaves important questions unanswered, especially on a device with existing downloads.

Recommended setup

1. Set viewing restrictions. On the Prime Video website, open Account & Settings, then Permissions. Choose the age restriction and relevant devices, then save. Verify the outcome on every device rather than assuming one change covers all viewing. ¹
2. Lock unrestricted profiles. Under Your Profiles, edit the relevant profile and manage its PIN and lock settings. Enable the profile lock. ²
3. Protect profile creation and removal. Edit the account-holder profile, open its account PIN and lock controls, and enable the creation-and-removal lock. ³
4. Inspect the downloads library. Amazon explicitly says a Kids profile can access downloads made through an adult profile. Remove downloads that do not belong on a shared device. ⁴
5. Configure Fire TV separately. Amazon identifies Fire TV as having its own device-level parental controls. Do not rely only on the Prime Video website settings. ⁵

Good to know

The account PIN can override individual profile PINs. A Kids profile uses an age-12-and-under catalog, which is not the same as personally approving every title for a younger child. ²⁴

For adult self-protection, use a separate restriction-PIN arrangement where practical. Do not give someone your entire Amazon shopping account, stored payment access, or email account just to help manage entertainment boundaries.

Check your setup

Test an above-limit title, a switch into an unrestricted profile, and the creation or removal of a profile. Open Downloads while using the Kids profile. Repeat the checks on a Fire TV device and any other television app you use.
