Snapchat Family Center: connect the accounts and check the real controls

Begin a teen's Snapchat setup with a conversation about how the app will be used. Family Center is a way to connect a parent's account with an eligible teen's account, not a reason to skip that conversation.

Recommended setup

1. Prepare the parent account. Set up your own Snapchat account and connect with your teen on Snapchat.
2. Open Family Center. Find it in settings or through the app's search.
3. Send the invitation. Invite the teen's account to join your Family Center setup.
4. Complete the connection together. The teen must accept. Check that the invitation shows as accepted before assuming supervision is active. ¹
5. Review the available controls. Go through the content and contact-related options actually shown in your Family Center. Choose the strongest settings that fit the agreed plan, and consult Snapchat's current help for any option whose scope is unclear.

Do not represent an accepted invitation as proof that all available content restrictions are already enabled. Also distinguish information about who a teen interacts with from access to the contents of private conversations.

Use the accurate ages and eligibility rules for the parent and teen accounts. Adult self-protection should use controls suitable for an adult's own account, not a fabricated child identity.

Check your setup

Confirm the connection from both accounts and inspect each offered control. Agree on what the teen should do when someone sends unwanted material and when a contact should be blocked or reported.

When the available supervision does not meet the household's needs, choose a more limited way to communicate rather than assuming that linking the accounts solves every content concern.
