Beyond streaming: the places your setup may miss

After configuring the services you use most, do one wider review. The question is not just which apps have settings. It is whether the person using the device can still reach a route you have not considered.

Review these access points

1. Other entertainment apps. Inventory free live-TV services, Pluto TV, Plex, Fandango at Home, discovery+, STARZ, and channels built into a smart television. These are review targets, not a claim that each provides a dependable PIN. A kids category alone should not count as an enforced child mode.
2. Browsers and discovery tools. Check alternate browsers, search engines, image search, and links opened inside apps. Google explicitly limits SafeSearch's scope to Google Search. ¹
3. Gaming and community platforms. Review consoles, Steam, Roblox, community feeds, voice/chat features, user-generated material, and any media apps installed alongside games. Decide which functions are appropriate instead of judging only the main game's rating.
4. Messages, files, and AI tools. Review group chats, shared files, saved photos and videos, cloud-storage apps, and AI chat or image tools. Make an access decision for each rather than assuming a streaming filter governs it.
5. Downloads and alternative devices. Inspect existing offline libraries, old phones, tablets, guest profiles, casting devices, and television inputs. Prime Video's documented Kids-profile download access is one concrete reason to include offline media. ²

Use the same questions everywhere

What can this account open? Who can change its limits? What happens after switching accounts or signing out? Does the restriction apply here or only somewhere else?

Device-specific scope is real: Roku limits its channel controls to supported on-device use, and Apple says its web viewing restrictions need separate device configuration. ³⁴

Decide what to keep

Mark each service as configured and checked, supervised use only, or not allowed in this setup. Do not label an untested service safe simply because it has a family-friendly home page.

For children, keep the process age-appropriate and transparent. For adults, use freely agreed boundaries and a legitimate recovery plan rather than secret monitoring or transferring unrelated personal accounts.
